Writing

Writing is easy: All you do is sit staring at a blank sheet of paper until drops of blood form on your forehead.
Gene Fowler

That quote makes me laugh. And feel better about myself. This lifestyle of writing is certainly strenuous, but then, the fulfillment of an idea in the compact form of a story is about the most satisfying thing I can think of. So here I am. This is me, at my desk, writing away. I think it was Anne Morrow Lindbergh who said that a good writer ought to have a desk with sun streaming in over the right shoulder. Well, I have just that. Plus a good notebook, a slender pen, and a sturdy little computer to prod loose and catch the clusters of my ripe words. I feel like a fruit laden apple tree in brain of late; all these ideas have been swelling in my head regardless of the rush and fun and now, it’s time for the harvest. My mental muscles already feel a bit sore from the past few days, but they’ll strengthen, they’ll learn to pull a steady weight. And in the end, I will hopefully present to the world a well reaped orchard in the form of three (yes three!) well-piled books.

Wish me luck!

  1. Hi Sarah – what a wonderful picture and a very nice place to “see” you when I lift you up. I am so excited to think of the books you are making, and I will certainly pray with you. May it be a blessed New Year in your life! Love to you, Q

  2. I just wanted to thank you for your wonderful blog! It’s so nice to hop over here when I have a few moments for something thoughtful. Would love to hear more about the book for educating and nurturing children.

  3. Your writing place looks wonderful! I pursued a creative writing degree in college and would’ve loved a place like that to write! I made do with my little dorm room desk–not quite as charming as yours 🙂 (Who am I kidding? Now with three children, there’s nowhere in the house like that for me to write, either, so I make do with the kitchen table. Maybe someday . . .)

I’m glad you’re back–I’m hoping to meet you and your mom next month in Irving!

  4. Thankyou for sharing the photo, it looks perfect!

I’m looking forward to reading your reviews on the George MacDonald books you said you had for Christmas. I am new to him…infact I have never read anything of his, but I stumbled across his name a while ago, and have been hoping someone could share their thoughts on his writing. But as yet I haven’t come across anyone else who has read either his fiction or “Christian” books, and I’ve been a little confused as to where he is coming from when I have read about him on various websites.

Happy New Year by the way, I really liked the pic from the other day.

  5. Hi Sarah,

I was pointed to your site by a friend who said I’d enjoy it, and she was quite right. You have a lovely way with words! I’d like to post a link to it on my blog, if that’s ok.

    God bless, and keep writing!
